An earnest but amateurish and extremely slow-moving attempt to incorporate hard science in a genre movie framework, as evidenced by the casting of Britsh ethologist and evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins in a voice role. The story has something to do with some smarty-pants scientists at Miskatonic University (notice the rather obvious nod to H.P. Lovecraft) who design a time travel device and when the self-proclaimed “alpha male” of the group takes it for a spin on a drunk evening, he ends up dead. What follows is an extended flashback (or is it?) to his adolescence, which is marked by the usual girl troubles and random appearances of strange creatures. No doubt director and screenwriter Gus Holwerda meant well and his film is technically competent, but the leaden pace, uninvolving story, and drab, generally unappealing visual compositions make it very hard to maintain interest.
